Time for Some Summer Lovin’!

The Summer Lovin’ Anthologies are now available! Click on the banner to get yours – they’ll only be available until September 30th. But enough of that – how about an excerpt from my contribution?  From the short paranormal romance, Concessions, meet Lindsey and her beau, Clyde (AKA Devon):

Shoving the extra ketchup under the counter, I went back to my catalog. Snowmen, fir trees, and angels—three things you can’t find in Vegas, no matter what time of year it is. “Happy Ho-Ho-Holidays” one T-shirt read…now that’s more like it. Candy, the prostitute who worked the corner across the street, would enjoy that.

“I like that one better.” A black fingernail tapped the picture below.

“HOLY ****!” I screamed, sending soda cups and lids flying.

“Sorry. A little jumpy today, Lindsey?”

My vision pulsed red as my heart scrambled to flood my system with adrenaline. “Damn it, Clyde, as if your looks aren’t enough to give me a coronary.” The one thing I couldn’t figure out was why the customers we did get dressed like the living dead. I thought they were supposed to haunt the night, not the afternoon.

“I can’t help it you never hear me coming. I guess I should get a bell for my collar.” He ran a long, pale finger along the edge of his spiked neckwear. Clyde took the Goth look to a new extreme, his sharpened canines sparkling in the neon glow as he graced me with a rare smile.

“Then the mice’ll be safe.” Sighing, I stooped down and collected the now-trashed cups.

Stomping his combat boots loudly on the thin carpet, Clyde came around the counter. While I fumbled with the paper and plastic, he deftly stacked the lids like they’d just come out of the box. He started to set them by the soda machine, but I stopped him.

“We have to toss those. Health code, you know.”

“Oh, right. Sorry again. Jack won’t be mad, will he?” One of the few regulars, Clyde came in every day, watching the same movies over and over. I’d never asked him about that—I probably didn’t want to know.

“Nah. Don’t worry about it. **** happens.” I dumped the last load into the trash and punched the intercom behind me. “Jack, keep an eye on the counter. I have to go get some more cups, okay?”

The figure in the glass booth across the lobby threw a hand in the air.

“Can I help you carry something?” Clyde asked.

I did a double take. “Sure.”

He followed me silently to the stairs.

“Are you okay, Clyde?” I thought his vocabulary was limited to “Hot Tamales” and “thank you.”

“I’m fine, why?”

I opened the door at the top, walked past the projectors feeding the two lonely screens, and invited him into the dark storeroom with my finger on my lips. As door the closed, I flicked on the bare light bulb and squinted at him.

“You’ve never talked to me before. What’s up?”

His midnight eyes were traced in heavy matching liner. Black pearls in a velvet purse. Straight, jet-black bangs fell across his forehead, begging to be brushed aside to reveal his meticulously groomed ebony eyebrows. His hair was the only thing that wasn’t characteristic of the death-loving crowd. No spikes or vibrant colors interrupted the soft wave that framed his stark features and ended in an unbroken line at his chin.

The caverns in his cheeks became dimples as another smile creased his equally black lips. “Honestly? I talk to you every day, Lindsey.”

His eyes held mine, paralyzing me. His pupils seemed to open like umbrellas, enveloping me in night.

“You do not,” I breathed, unable to blink but seeing nothing.

“Yes, I do.” His husky voice wafted over me like fog. “Every day. Remember?”

I swayed in his arms, lost in his gaze.

“Remember,” he repeated—no, commanded.

In the darkness his word became smoke, swirling around me, beckoning me. Every day…remember…

Would you rather read about hot, sexy love that pushes the envelope? The Summer Lovin’ Anthology:Heat Wave will definitely light your fire. Or, try both, and get a sampling from a dozen authors.

My story, Concessions, will be featured in the Heat Wave edition:

Lindsey Colton leads a lonely life running the concession stand at a Las Vegas movie theater. When a dark, mysterious man ducks in one afternoon, Lindsey is introduced to a new world: one of vampires, princes, and fiery sex. Her seductive lover, Devon, has grand plans to steal her away, but only if she is willing to give up her humanity and he is willing to give up his future as king. Lindsey is more than eager to start anew with her immortal love…but the concessions Devon has to make could cost Lindsey her life.

No matter which you read, both of the Summer Lovin’ Anthologies pack a punch – as far as cancer is concerned. Save the Ta-tas funds research to fight the deadly disease. By purchasing one or both of the Anthologies, you’re joining that fight.

The anthologies will only be available for a very limited time, so set a reminder for July 5th to order yours, and kick cancer where it hurts!

Crazy Days

It’s been a wild and crazy month – not just here, but all around the world. And as much as I’d like to complain about all the goings-on here that take up my time, it’s nothing compared to what others have to deal with. Consider this latest video of the Japanese tsunami:

Kind of shrinks my gripes down to nothing. So rather than complain, I’d rather say thank you. Thank you for laughing, crying, listening, and yes, even ignoring me. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and have a great Monday!

Gearing up for the RT Booklovers Convention

I’m so excited to be heading to L.A. next week to the RT Booklovers Convention. I’ve filled my days with all kinds of seminars and classes on everything from writing to marketing to criminal investigation!  And of course, there’s a few parties thrown in for fun! If you’d like to see where I’ll be, you can check out my schedule by searching for my profile (Robin DeJarnett) HERE.

In addition to all the note-taking and fun, I’ll also be participating in the RT Expo on Friday, April 8th, from 4-6pm.  The Expo is open to the public for a modest $5 entrance fee, so if you’re anywhere in the area, please come by and see me!  You can bring your copy of Whirlwind for me to sign, or I’ll have both hard copies and ebooks for sale and signing at the event.  But the best thing?

Kobo eReader

YOU CAN ENTER TO WIN A KOBO.

My California cohorts: Killian McRae and Lisa Sanchez, are hosting a little scavenger hunt during the Expo. All you have to do is visit each of our tables, get your entry card punched, and then drop it in one of our baskets to be entered. Of course, you’ll also get goodies from each of us too!

Did I mention the Kobo will be loaded with all of our ebooks?  And since it uses the very popular epub format, you’ll be able to load tons of books from all over the internet.

So if you’re in the Southern California area next Friday, or are attending RT, I look forward to meeting you!

One More Day to Enter to Win at LibraryThing

Don’t forget to ENTER TO WIN an autographed copy of Whirlwind on LibraryThing.  The odds are pretty good, so why not throw in your name?

An Amazing Night

To say our release party was a success is a HUGE understatement!

Over 70 people came to the Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell, CA to celebrate the release of my book, Whirlwind, and Killian McRae’s novel, 12.21.12 on Thursday.  We were shocked, amazed, and supremely humbled at the turnout!

Friends, family, teachers, coworkers, neighbors, and online friends started arriving at 6 until the room we’d reserved was filled beyond capacity.  The room was buzzing with happy conversation and soft music, played by my daughter, Megan.

The biggest surprise was the cake that Killian brought. She and her daughters made the cake from the cover of Whirlwind!  And it tasted SO GOOD!

Cake made by Killian McRae

By the time Killian and I started our presentation, it was standing room only. We spoke about our books, our upcoming projects (yes, the sequel to Whirlwind is in the works), and the publishing process. Knowing so many had come to support us chased away the nervous jitters, and I managed to read a short excerpt from Whirlwind without stumbling over my words too many times.

Killian also read from 12.12.12 before we sat down to sign books.  Thank you to everyone for being so patient!  By the end of the night, all the books we’d brought were gone. Don’t worry, we have more on order to deliver to those who didn’t get one or couldn’t make it.

Thank you so much to everyone who came.  Be sure and check out RobinDeJarnettFans for even more photos, and if you have some, I’d love to see them!

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the help of dear friends Raquel Cochran and Julie Bounds, and my family, especially daughter and musician Megan and the love of my life, my husband Steve.

I am blessed to call Killian McRae as friend.  She’s an amazing writer, full of humor, generosity, and compassion.  Please check out her book, 12.21.12, and her website, killianmcrae.com.

I can’t believe it’s only three days until the Whirlwind/12.21.12 Release Party! The food is ordered, the invitations given out, and the festivities planned. I’m excited, happy, and a little nervous. What if no one shows up?  What if EVERYONE shows up?  AAAAAAAHHHH!

Nervousness aside, I really wish everyone could come.  So many devoted fans live all around the globe – I want to find a way to include everyone in the celebration.  I’ll definitely be tweeting when I can during the day on Thursday, and hopefully be able to post a couple photos from the party.  The online snacks will have to be virtual , but I’ll be posting a great fondue recipe and buttercream frosting recipe, if you’d like to indulge at home.

I also have an electronic copy of Whirlwind to give away. Join me on Twitter on Thursday, January 27th, and watch for the #Whirlwind122112Party hashtag. Join in the fun by posting your favorite quotes from Whirlwind, favorite dessert recipe, or just by saying hi, but be sure to add #Whirlwind122112Party to your tweet. I’ll be drawing one random name from tweeters  on the 27th (midnight to midnight Pacific time) to win a free ecopy of Whirlwind.

There’s a bunch of prizes up for grabs, including the entire Omnific library!

My heart will be going up sometime between now and January 31st somewhere on my website, but you’ll have to search for it!  Good luck!

Be sure and tune in next week to find out where we, the authors on the Meet an Author Hop, do this thing we call writing.  If you have a copy of Green Eggs and Ham, you might want to pull it out.  Do I write on a train?  In the rain?  In a box? With a fox? What’s your guess?
