A big question facing parents every Halloween is: Do I stay at home and hand out candy or take the kids Trick or Treating? At my house, my husband and I divide the duties and trade off every year, but it’s still a challenge when one kid only wants to go to a few houses but the other wants to go for hours.
I like going around the neighborhood with my kids. I love the decorations and seeing my neighbors. Fall evenings here in Northern California are mild, and usually dry, so the walk is pleasant. But handing out candy is also fun – it’s the best way to see the costumes.
How about you? Do you prefer to Trick or Treat with the kids or stay home and give out treats? Or do you do something else?

My husband and I always argued over who’d get to go with our daughter, so for years we’d trade off–one of us would take her for a bit while the other dished out, then we’d trade. A bit of each for both of us. Of course, now she’s older and just too cool to go out with her parents–either one of us. They grow up so darned fast! It’s fun though to see the really little ones when they come to the door. I’m so glad we have this holiday! I think it’s my favourite by far!
Diana you bring up a good point. I know Canada celebrates Halloween, and there’s a little bit of celebration in Australia (not much, though). I’m guessing it’s celebrated in the UK (blog hopper Carol Oates posted a great piece about Jack-o-lanterns and she’s in Ireland). But it’s big here in the US, especially for young kids.
Thanks for all the comments. Sorry you’re working on Monday, Jen
In my country (Greece) we don’t celebrate Halloween but we have something like in Halloween in February. If we had Trick or Treat I would like to stay home and give out treats.
Thank you for the giveaway!
Happy Halloween!
What a loser I am–I’m working the night of Halloween. I guess some of my clients are losers too since they’ll be there. 😉 I live in a condo complex so I don’t get many trick or treaters anyway. Happy Halloween!
Well, if we did some trick or treat here in Brazil, then I would like to go with the kids for sure. I love candys and kids are funnier than staying at home.
Thanks for the giveaway.
